Why Choose the CHRISTUS Ross Breast Center in Tyler
Your care is nationally accredited and approved.
- Multidisciplinary Tumor Board: As required by our Commission on Cancer accreditation, we never rely on just one medical opinion. Every Friday morning, our dedicated Breast Tumor Conference convenes a collaborative panel of surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, geneticists, and pathologists to meticulously review your specific case and custom-build your treatment plan.
- Quick Results From Your Radiologist: Meeting the highest diagnostic benchmarks set by the American College of Radiology, our radiologists specialize exclusively in breast tissue. Because they do not read general radiology scans, they provide the focused expertise needed for maximum accuracy—allowing us to read diagnostic imaging in real time and provide quick consultations to discuss your results.
- Proactive, Guided Support: A hallmark of our National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers standard is deeply personalized care. From the moment of a diagnosis, your dedicated Nurse Navigator acts as your direct point of contact—immediately stepping in to order your breast MRI, coordinate all necessary surgical and oncology referrals at once, and answer your questions.
- Comprehensive, Elite Diagnostics: We maintain full American College of Radiology accreditation in every breast imaging modality. This means you have access to the highest level of imaging technology, including 3D mammography, specialized screening combinations (SMU exams) for high-risk patients, breast MRI, and precise stereotactic breast biopsies.

Breast Cancer Screenings Designed for You
Screening Mammograms
A screening mammogram is one of the most effective tools for detecting breast cancer early, before symptoms appear.
Your mammogram is performed by an all-female, certified mammography team, and results are reviewed by our dedicated breast radiologists who specialize exclusively in breast imaging to ensure accurate, timely care.
Screening Mammogram and Ultrasound Exams (SMU)
For patients at high risk or based on a radiologist’s recommendation from a previous year, we offer SMU exams. This combines a 3D screening mammogram with a supplemental screening ultrasound to provide a comprehensive, detailed evaluation during a single visit.
Diagnostic Mammograms
If a screening mammogram detects an area of concern, or if you are experiencing symptoms, a diagnostic mammogram provides a more detailed look. Using advanced digital and 3D imaging, this test helps your care team get a clearer, more precise view to guide the next steps in your care.
Other Screenings and Diagnostics
- Breast Ultrasound and Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound: Provide detailed imaging to evaluate areas of concern, especially for women with dense breast tissue.
- Breast MRI: Offers highly sensitive imaging to detect abnormalities that may not appear on a mammogram or ultrasound.
- Stereotactic Breast Biopsy: A minimally invasive procedure that uses advanced imaging to precisely target and sample abnormal breast tissue. Please note: All breast biopsies are performed exclusively at our main Ross Breast Center location in North Park.
- Bone Density Screening: Helps evaluate your risk for osteoporosis, ensuring you receive the right care to protect your bone health.
Your Care Team and Treatment Options
Your relationship with our CHRISTUS breast nurse navigator begins during your biopsy appointment. If a biopsy confirms a cancer diagnosis, your physician will notify you directly, and your navigator will follow up to discuss your next recommended steps. She coordinates and schedules your initial referrals, including surgery, oncology, and physical therapy, all at once. Once your care is established with your treatment team, she steps back but remains a lifelong resource for you.
Depending on your specific diagnosis, your treatment plan may include medical oncology (such as chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, and targeted therapy) or radiation therapy (to target cancer cells and lower the risk of recurrence after surgery). To provide this comprehensive care, CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic collaborates closely with the specialized oncology teams at Texas Oncology, located together at the Northeast Texas Cancer and Research Institute. (Note: Patients always have the right to choose their preferred provider.)
Surgery may be part of your treatment plan, and you’ll be in the hands of our experienced general surgeons at CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic at our North Park campus. Whether it's a lumpectomy, which removes the tumor along with a small amount of surrounding tissue, or a mastectomy, which involves removing the tumor and one or both breasts, our team will guide you through every step with care and expertise.
Genetic testing can help guide your breast cancer treatment and identify inherited risks for you and your family. We coordinate your genetics care with dedicated genetic counselors at the Northeast Texas Cancer and Research Institute. They will review your family history, discuss testing options, and explain your results in detail.
Prevent and manage lymphedema while supporting your recovery from breast cancer surgery with our specialized physical therapy team in Tyler, TX. Meeting with a therapist before surgery allows us to evaluate your strength and movement, making it easier to detect and address any post-surgery concerns early. With physical therapy, you’ll learn exercises to aid your recovery, with continued support after surgery for stiffness and mobility.
Our team of reconstructive and plastic surgeons will walk you through your breast reconstruction options, ensuring you understand what's available to you. While not every patient will need plastic surgery, it's important to explore your options early, as they may influence your treatment decisions. By discussing these options up front, we’ll help you make the choice that’s right for you.
Support Programs and Services
Survivorship Program
Once you have completed your cancer treatments (typically about six months after diagnosis), our survivorship specialist will meet with you to provide and discuss your personalized survivorship care plan and treatment summary.
This details your personal cancer information, including cancer pathology, treatments you received or continue to receive, any side effects you have or could expect to have going forward, your emotional well-being, diet, exercise, ongoing cancer surveillance and health maintenance recommendations.
